Padmashri Mukund Nayak
A folk singer, a songwriter, a dancer – Mukund Nayak is an exemplary Indian artist from Jharkhand. He has aced the Nagpuri folk dance Jhumar. Mukund Nayak is also honoured with the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his aim to preserve the traditional folk art.
Padmashri Deepika Kumari
A gold medalist in the commonwealth games, Deepika Kumari is a fine Indian athlete. She is currently ranked World Number 9 in archery. Deepika has many feathers to her cap – including the Arjuna Award (2012), the FICCI Sportsperson of the Year Award (2014), and the Padma Shri (2016).
Padmashri Simon Oraon
Simon Oraon Minj, lovingly called as Simon Baba among his villagers, is renowned with the title of ‘Waterman of Jharkhand.’ As an Indian environmentalist and a social worker, he has helped his state combat the grave problem of draught. The Government of India paid its due respect to this legend, by honoring him with Padma Shri in 2016.
